Meet Paul - HR Consultant

I’m an experienced HR Consultant with over 17 years of people management expertise, supported by my CIPD Level 5 qualification. 

I’ve had the privilege of managing diverse teams, including overseeing 18 managers and more than 100 employees as an Area Manager for a pub group. Before that, I ran my own businesses for six years, leading my own team of 25 employees across multiple sites. I’m proud that, despite employee issues arising, many of those employees stayed with me for several years in a sector known for high staff turnover. These roles have given me practical, real-world experience in resolving employee issues, managing team dynamics, and creating positive, productive workplaces.

My early career has been shaped by working in fast-paced environments, primarily in the hospitality sector, where I’ve tackled a wide variety of HR challenges. Over time, my career has expanded to include advising clients from a wide variety of sectors, such as health and social care, retail, beauty, funeral services, construction, skilled trades, transport, insurance, professional services, and more!

How I Can Help You

The nature of my role means that I often provide real-time advice over the phone when there is an issue. This experience gives me unique insight into how to deal with a wide range of issues, often rather complex or outside of the norm. It helps me to understand when situations can become problematic, enabling me to provide you with proactive advice to avoid such issues and protect your business.

Having spent years in leadership roles myself, I truly understand the pressure, responsibility, and day-to-day challenges that come with managing people. This hands-on experience allows me to offer grounded, no fluff, practical support that reflects the realities of running a business. I’ve spent years resolving workplace disputes, building stronger teams, and ensuring compliance with ever-changing regulations, all while keeping things practical and manageable.

I understand how daunting and onerous HR may feel to some business owners, particularly those without a full-time HR position in-house. I work with a wide variety of clients, each with different levels of HR experience. Some are small businesses taking on employees for the first time, while others are larger clients with qualified HR teams and hundreds of staff. These larger clients often value a brief call to sense-check an approach or talk through a situation. I also support senior leaders and experienced Directors who, from time to time, encounter complex or issues outside of the norm that benefit from external HR guidance.
